Xenotes vs Other Cenote Tours from Cancún
Updated October 27, 2026
Verdict
Pick Xenotes if you want four different cenote types plus the rappel, zip-lines and kayak in one catered, guided day, your children are 6 or older, and Xcaret's price for your date suits you. Pick an independent tour if you want a cheaper or shorter day (from $39), a cenote paired with Chichén Itzá or Tulum, a cave river from age 4 at Rio Secreto, or a slow swim day like the two cenotes at El Retoño for $59.
Xenotes is a cenote tour run by Grupo Xcaret, the company behind the Xcaret park. In about 9 hours with hotel pickup it visits four cenotes, one of each type, with a rappel, kayak, zip-lines and a water slide along the way, and a picnic with drinks. The independent tours this site lists are run by local operators and cenote parks and usually pair one or two cenotes with something else: Chichén Itzá, Tulum's ruins, Akumal's turtles, an ATV ride or Rio Secreto's underground river. They cost from $39 to $119 per person. Xenotes' adult price is not printed on the official pages we could read; Xcaret's site shows it for your date. This page compares the two on facts; we do not sell Xenotes.

Price per person
We could not read an adult price for Xenotes on Xcaret's pages or on the tour's own site, so we do not print one; check Xcaret's site for your date. The independent tours below are priced from the listings on 27 October 2026, converted at 1 USD = 18.5913 MXN and rounded. Three of them leave fees to pay on the day: the two Tulum tours (ruins and Mariposa, and turtles and cenote) each ask US$40 per adult for the ruins, Jaguar park and cenote, and the Chichén Itzá tour lists a US$44 site fee unless you book its All-Inclusive option.

What to bring
For Xenotes: sunscreen only if it is made with titanium oxide and zinc oxide, your ID and the digital coupon, and nothing you need to lock away. For the independent tours the lists vary: swimwear and a towel on all, water shoes and biodegradable sunscreen on the El Retoño swim day, cash for the site fees on the ruins tours, and a driver's licence for the ATV. The full list is on what to wear to a cenote.
Compare before you book
If one catered day with four cenotes is the goal, look at Xenotes on Xcaret's site and its price for your date. If you would rather pair a swim with ruins, turtles or a cave, compare the cenote tours from Cancún side by side; the cenote price page shows what going alone would cost instead.
